Supay / Illimani (Digital Experiment)

This work began with a Supay mask I had painted by hand, which I then photographed, uploaded, and transformed digitally. I cropped the image, layered colors, and used overlays to create a 3D effect reminiscent of old anaglyph glasses, a visual distortion that both unsettles and draws you in. Behind it, I placed Illimani rising above La Paz, anchoring the image in the landscape of Bolivia while the Supay hovers as both guardian and trickster.

For me, this piece reflects my interest in mixing mediums. Bridging the tactile intimacy of painting with the possibilities of digital manipulation. The Supay becomes not just a folkloric figure but a portal: layered, shifting, vibrating between tradition and technology. In simplifying and recoloring, I was experimenting with how cultural symbols can be reimagined for the screen, holding onto their roots while speaking in a new visual language.
